Thursday 22 October 2026 African drumming workshop Oct 26 As part of Black History Month, Key Stage 1 and Reception children took part in an African Drumming workshop. The children had the opportunity to learn about the making of the drum. They also learned different pieces of music to then perform to the key stage 2 children at the end of the day.

Thursday 15 October 2026 Y1 Port Meadow Walk Oct 26 Today, Year 1 went on a seasonal walk around Port Meadow. We discussed what we could see, hear and feel. Then the children explored the environment to find a natural object that shows the seasonal changes in Autumn.

Monday 12 October 2026 Team Phil & Jim A huge thank you for your generosity and support in our Oxford Half campaign for the Gatehouse. Your homemade signs and shouts of encouragement really helped us to keep going and it was such a lovely feeling to see so many from our Phil and Jim community come together for a great cause. Thank you also to the PTA for organising our beautiful t-shirts. It was a real team effort!

Friday 9 October 2026 Y5 Christ Church Cathedral Oct 26 The sun shone for our trip to Christ Church Cathedral. The trip was arranged as part of our RE topic this term - The Life of Jesus. Whilst in the cathedral we participated in several activities including dressing up as Bishops and monks! We also completed puzzles of scenes from around the cathedral and then searched for the real thing. Everyone appreciated and enjoyed the calmness of this beautiful, majestic and reverent building.

Thursday 8 October 2026 Support for The Gatehouse We were overwhelmed by the incredibly generous Harvest donations this year received from pupils, families and staff. These donations, along with others from the congregation of St Margaret's Church were delivered to The Gatehouse this week following our Harvest Festival service in church.

Thursday 18 June 2026 Y1 Cotswold Wildlife Part trip June 26 Year 1 had a fantastic time visiting Cotswold Wildlife Park. We had the opportunity to explore the park. The children loved looking at the different animals especially the red pandas and capybaras. The children also had a talk discussing the classification of animals where the children even got to hold a snake's skin, a giraffe's tail and a tortoise's shell.

Wednesday 3 June 2026 2P Pizza Express Trip June 26 2P embarked on an exciting trip to Pizza Express as part of their Design Technology topic, "Perfect Pizza." They enjoyed a hands-on experience, learning about the art of pizza making from expert chefs. They explored the importance of ingredients, design, and teamwork while creating their own delicious pizzas.

Tuesday 12 May 2026 Times Tables Rockstar Day 2026 The school was abuzz with the sound of Times Tables Rock Stars today! Colourful hair, speedy recall, and inflatable guitars were the theme of the day. Unfortunately for the teachers, the children were once again the supreme victors, defeating every adult brave enough to take part in a battle during the big Rock Stars assembly. Congratulations to the children! We really do have some speedy mathematicians at Phil and Jim!

Wednesday 22 April 2026 Bikeability 26 The weather has been very kind for our Year 5s taking their Bikeability training this week. Having passed the first stage of training on the playground, the children moved on to more advanced training on the local roads.

Friday 27 March 2026 Y4 performance of Oliver! Year 4 put on a spectacular performance of Oliver! offering two performances to parents in addition to those enjoyed by the school. Staff and children worked so hard rehearsing and perfecting their lines, acting and singing and the effort was well worth every minute. Congratulations to all involved.

Thursday 26 March 2026 Primary Team Maths Challenge Congratulations to Ridley, Joseph N, Melody, Lina, Henry, Raymond, Martha and Dionne from Year 5 who represented Phil and Jim at the Primary Maths Competition at d' Overbroeck's Senior School. The children showcased their maths skills in five challenging rounds, competing against local schools. Impressively, our two teams of pupils achieved first and third place! Monday 23 March 2026 Just Sing at the Schwarzman Centre We were very excited to have been invited to perform in a concert at the newly opened Schwarzman Centre and are grateful to the Humanities Division at Oxford University for inviting us to use their concert hall at the Centre. Children from Phil & Jim, St Barnabas and St Aloysius primary schools came together to share some of their own songs, as well as performing three other songs together as a massed choir.

Monday 23 March 2026 Y5 Mary Arden's Farm 26 This term we have been learning all about the Tudors in History. As part of this topic, we visited Mary Arden's Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon, where the children took part in a Tudors Alive workshop. During the visit, we explored what life was like for children in Tudor Britain by participating in traditional Tudor activities, touring a Tudor house, and exploring a working farm.

Friday 20 March 2026 Year 3 Museum of Oxford trip As part of our focus on settlements and local geography in Term 4, we arranged a trip to the Museum of Oxford. While we were there,we were able to have a look around the museum and handle some of the exhibits.
